A Clinical Study of Trimalleolar Fractures of the Ankle

Abstract
A clinical analysis was done 15 patients of trimalleolar fracture that admitted and treated from January 1977 to December 1981.
The following results were obtained:
1. The main cause of the injuries was falling from a height (60%) and the other causes were sports injury, slipping down.
2. The most common type by Lauge-Hansen classification was supination-external rotation type (60%)
3. All cases with a posterior marginal fragment involving 25 percent or more of the articular surface, were treated by operation.
4. Posterior marginal marginal fragment was situated on posterlateral side of the distal tibia (14cases), on posteromedial (1cases).
5. All caes, talus was displaced laterally.
6. The good clinical results were achieved in 12 patient (80%).
